About CATRINE LJUNGGREN:
Catrine spent almost her entire life dancing, from tap, modern jazz, and ballet, to a most recent addition to her repertoire: tango.
But probably the most important addition was the jitterbug, which she started learning at the age of 14. It had been a beginning of a wonderful and inspiring relationship which lasts to this very day.
She learned her first Lindy Hop steps from the legendary Al Minns from Whitey’s Lindy Hoper’s and a year later Frankie Manning became her teacher and mentor.
In 1985 she founded, together with five other members, the dancegroup “The Rhythm Hot Shots.” Her passion also became her profession, and she traveled across the globe teaching dances from the Swing era. Also, with her dance group, she was a part of musical productions, commercials, and has made several (or more than several?) TV appearances.
Alongside TRHS, she also founded the Herrang Dance Camp in 1989, where she taught dance for 25 years, and up until 2002 also the camp’s manager/main organiser.
While living in San Francisco, where she moved in 2000, she started a swing club called Cat’s Corner where she taught regular classes together with her partner Nathan Dias. The club is still going strong and offers classes and dances to live band every Wednesdays.
Her great love for dancing apparently gives her inexhaustible drive, energy, and enthusiasm, as she had been engaged in numerous other dance events over the past years, such as organising Hop the Millennium 1999 – 2000 in Mexico co-organising LHAIF (Lindy Hop Argentina International Festival), working on TV shows and theater productions as well as a choreographer for many dance groups, as well as for the movie industry, and the list goes on.
She has been teaching and performing around the world for over 30 years with the dance group The Rhythm Hot Shots and from 2002 with her partners, which include Elliott Donnellie, Frankie Manning, Chazz Young, Chester Whitmore and many others.
